Tess got pretty sick this morning with a stomach bug. Yuck. We were on our way to B's house when it came out of nowhere - no joke. We had one of those hurry-and-pull-off-to-the-side-of-the-road-ASAP moments. Next thing you know, a crying Tess was stripped down to her undies and we were heading home. Who really needs to go to work anyway?
Throughout the day today, sick little Tess was pretty attached to her "Baby." This is nothing new, but since she wasn't feeling good, she was especially conscious of Baby's whereabouts. This got me thinking about how we've never really given Baby her* five minutes of fame here, which she definitely deserves given her prominent status in this house.
You see, Baby is Tess' lovey, her blankie, her wubby... whatever you prefer to call it. We've spent many a nights before bedtime frantically searching the house for Baby just to find her in a cupboard, behind the curtains or even in the microwave of Tess' kitchen. We've also had a few too many occasions where we've made the mistake of forgetting Baby, namely Papa and Meena's house, only to have to turn around and go all the way back to get her. And Papa and Meena have certainly done their fair share of bringing Baby back this way too. Baby quickly became the last thing we make sure we have before we leave. Purse? check. Keys? check. Cell phone? check. Baby? check. Ok, we can go.
I sometimes wonder how long Tess will continue to cling to Baby. (I also wonder what Nora is going to declare as her "Baby" and what she will name it... and if it will be a "she" or a "he.") There have been times lately when we've forgotten Baby when we've left for B's house and Tess didn't seem to mind. Kinda makes me sad that Tess may be outgrowing Baby. Baby seems to be the last sort of "baby thing" that Tess still has going for her since pacifiers, bottles, cribs - and now even diapers! - are things of the past. But for now, my baby is still needin' her Baby and that kinda makes me happy.
*Yes, as confirmed by Tess on numerous occasions, Baby is definitely a "she."
